Soft Water

Soft water has a clean silky feeling, it makes bathtime a luxury without the need for expensive bath oils or bubble bath liquid, your hair feels softer and easier to manage.

Successful reports suggest the following:-
Water softeners eliminate scummy soap curd and result in a clean lather which is kind to the skin, reducing dryness and itching. With softened water the amount of soap used when washing clothes can be greatly reduced, also pure soap products can be used in preference to detergents.

If moving into a new property, installing a Water Softener will keep all your water using appliances scale free from day one, your pipes – basins – sinks – baths – toilets – dishwashers – washing machines – etc  will all stay looking brand new and giving you 100% performance. If  however you already have a build up of scale in your pipes and appliances this will gradually be removed over a period of time.


Salt is the regenerant used to clean water softener resin and replenish the system ready to produce lovely soft water. Although salt is not actually used in the water softening process, the sodium derived plays a major part in giving optimum performance and reliability.

Questions and Answers

  • Should I be able to see water in salt tank ?
    Yes this is quite normal, unless the water is at an unusually high level ie to the top of the tank.
  • My water softener is making noises at night, has it gone wrong?
    No these noises are quite normal, it is your water softener doing its regeneration.
  • Will it harm my water softener if it runs out of salt completely?
    No but you will have hard water until you re-fill your salt tank and the water softener regenerates
  • Can I use softened water in my Aquarium?
    Softened water may be acceptable, if in doubt check with your aquatic supplier.
  • Is softened water suitable for home brewing?
    It varies, it is suitable for wine,brown ale,stout and lager if you “mash” it may require special water.
  • Do plants like softened water?
    Most indoor plants prefer rainwater to tap water check with your local garden centre.
  • If I move can I take my water softener with me?
    Definitely Yes, it is as easy as removing a washing machine.
  • Can softened water be used in car batteries and steam irons?
    No only distilled or deionised waters should be used in car batteries and are best for steam irons
  • Should a water softener be installed to leave a drinking tap which supplies unsoftened water?
    Yes it is particularly important that all powdered milk for babies feeds is mixed with water drawn, from unsoftened water also anyone on a sodium restricted diet should follow doctors advice.
  • Will I be deprived of Minerals Necessary for good health?
    No the beneficial minerals necessary for good health come mostly from food in your diet, neither hard or softened water can provide a significant proportion of the daily needs for minerals – for example a glass of hard water contains only about one tenth of the calcium that is in an equal volume of milk.
  • How much sodium is there in softened water?
    The average daily intake of sodium from all sources for and adult is 3500mg (9g of salt), Two glasses of milk contain 325 mg of sodium, Two slices of bread contain 375 mg of sodium, Two litres of artificially softened water per day add only 310 mg of sodium to their daily intake.
