Maintenance and Servicing – Preventative Care for Your Water Softener
We maintain and repair domestic and commercial water softeners across Kent, Sussex, Surrey and South-East London — keeping systems reliable, efficient and protected for the long term.
That’s where my team at Hydroworks and I specialise.
I’m Laurence, and I’ve worked in the water softening industry for over 26 years. My background includes highly technical, solution-focused training, and I not only have trained my engineers myself, but I also work closely with them day-to-day to ensure we deliver expert workmanship alongside clear, honest advice.
My team are trained by manufacturers and regularly updated in-house. We’re known for being methodical, keeping excellent service records, and allowing enough time on site to do the job properly — not rushing in and out.
And don’t be surprised if it’s me who turns up to service your softener.

Our Approach to Servicing
When we carry out a service — domestic or commercial — we:
-
Check the overall condition of the installation
-
Test incoming hard water and treated soft water quality
-
Check water pressure
-
Review system settings and operation
-
Identify any parts that may need attention
If any spares are required, we will always explain the options and costs first, so you can make an informed decision.
Some softeners can occasionally have multiple faults where one issue hides another. If that happens, we’ll keep you fully informed and work methodically to resolve everything properly.
Our Service & Maintenance Options
We offer different levels of servicing depending on the size of your system, how critical it is, and how intensively it’s used.
System Health Check Service
Ideal as a regular preventative maintenance visit, this service ensures your softener is operating efficiently in current water conditions.
During the visit we:
-
Adjust settings to suit changes in incoming water quality
-
Check the regeneration process is working correctly
-
Inspect and test valves, controls and system functions
-
Confirm treated water quality and ensure there is no salt carryover
-
Carry out electrical safety checks
-
Perform fault-finding, resolving minor issues on site where possible
Mechanical Overhaul Service
A more in-depth service that includes internal mechanical inspection and replacement of routine wear parts.
During this service we:
-
Dismantle and inspect the main control valve assembly
-
Replace key wear-and-tear components
-
Functionally test regeneration stages
-
Adjust system settings for current raw water conditions
-
Check treated water quality
-
Carry out electrical safety checks
-
Provide a detailed condition report
Recommended periodically for higher-use or critical systems.
Comprehensive Care Service
This combines everything in both the System Health Check and Mechanical Overhaul services into one thorough visit.
It delivers both performance optimisation and internal mechanical servicing — ideal where reliability is especially important.
Essential Service Visit
Designed for smaller or lighter-duty systems, this covers key performance checks without running a full regeneration cycle.
We carry out:
-
Functional checks of the regeneration process
-
Inspection of valves and controls
-
Water quality checks
-
Electrical safety inspection
-
Basic fault-finding and reporting
A practical, cost-effective option for compact systems.
Resin Condition Check – Optional Upgrade
The resin inside your softener gradually degrades over time. Because accessing the resin bed can be complex, this isn’t included in routine servicing.
However, we recommend assessing resin condition every few years — especially on older or heavily used systems.
This can be added as an upgrade to a Mechanical Overhaul or Comprehensive Care visit, and we’ll discuss it with you when scheduling your service.
Resin Replacement – Restoring Softening Performance
Even a well-maintained softener will eventually need new resin. The resin is the working heart of the system, and over time it can become exhausted, fouled or physically broken down.
When the resin has reached the end of its serviceable life, we remove the old media and install high-quality new ion exchange resin, restoring the softening capacity and overall efficiency of your unit.
This is a corrective or end-of-life procedure carried out when performance can no longer be maintained through servicing alone.
Repairs & Replacement Parts
We only use new, genuine manufacturer-approved parts to protect performance and longevity.
Our service visits are based on repair work carried out on site. If a unit needs a full workshop strip-down, we will always discuss this with you first.
Where possible, we can provide a free temporary replacement unit while repairs are carried out (subject to practicality and availability).
All replacement parts we fit come with a 12-month parts and labour guarantee relating to the work carried out.
Safety, Insurance & Professional Standards
We work with a wide range of customers, including the NHS, and are fully insured.
Strong health & safety and risk management procedures are part of how we operate every day.
