The Kind of Guarantees You’ll Actually Use

What Makes MiniMax Guarantees So different?

When you choose a MiniMax softener, you’re choosing more than just outstanding engineering — you’re choosing peace of mind backed by the longest and most trusted guarantees in the water softener industry.

  • 10-year Parts Guarantee

The entire MiniMax range (including the resin) features a manufacturer backed 10-year parts guarantee.  This means that even if you bought your Minimax elsewhere (or any Harvey machine), we can maintain it for you, under guarantee.

The guarantee stays with the product, not the purchaser of the product.

  • Exclusive Resin Guarantee

Chlorine contamination is the biggest killer of water softeners.  Unique to Harvey Softeners, only their machines feature a resin guarantee against chlorine contamination.  And best of all, the Minimax and TwinTec have a 10-year guarantee against it, while the directly purchased from Harvey (Arc) has just a 3-year guarantee.

Every other manufacturer says that if your machine is damaged by mains water chlorine (the biggest killer of water softeners), then the repair cost is at the cost of the customer, not the manufacturer - this is because chlorine contamination is seen as a non-manufacturing defect.

  • Soft Water Performance Guarantee

Your Minimax comes with something very unusual - a written guarantee of completely soft water, all of the time!  On the scale of hardness, seen here on my website, that means 0 to 1 drop of hardness, all of the time, regardless of how much water is used, or the number of people in your home, or the type of hot water system you have in your home.

The caveat is that your softener must be properly specified - but then every manufacturer says correct specification is important.

  • Descaling Guarantee

Installing a water softener in your home or business will descale the pipework, heat exchangers, showers, taps and toilets.  But how far it can descale will depend on the type of machine you have installed.

Your Minimax guarantees to remove all buildup and scale - this is because it guarantees to softend down to a maximum of 1 drop of hardness - thats classed as 'completely soft water'.

You can read more about this in the section below.

  • Five Separate Equipment-Specific Guarantees

There is a guarantee that protects your boiler, your Mile washing machine, your dishwashers, your Quooker boiling water tap, and even your bio-septic tank!

You can read more about this in the section below.

Harvey’s Original Written Guarantees

Here are the "Five Separate Equipment-Specific Guarantees" mentioned above.

These guarantees were issued by Harvey Bowden, Chairman and Founder of Harvey Softeners.  You can also download the relevant guarantee at the bottom of the page.

1.  Boiler and Central Heating Guarantee

There is much confusion about the use of softened water in boilers with aluminium heat exchangers.

Many boiler manufacturers recommend not to use softened water but some do. Recent research has demonstrated that softened water is not a corrosion problem and the relevant British Standard for water treatment for boiler feed has been amended. BS 7593:2006 states that softened water can be used provided a correctly formulated inhibitor is used.

The building regulations require you to use an inhibitor in a central heating system so there is no practical difference between using hard or softened water.  You can read more about this, and the type of inhibitor recommended for softened water here on my website.

But there is a benefit in using softened water in terms of maintaining boiler efficiency because it eliminates scale deposition.

"So we recommend using softened water and provide the following guarantee:
That softened water from one of our water softeners will not cause corrosion in the boiler or heating system provided a correctly formulated inhibitor is used, such as Sentinel X100.
If such corrosion did occur, we would replace your boiler heat exchanger free of charge."

- Harvey Bowden, Founder, Harvey Softeners

2.  Dishwasher Guarantee

"There is much confusion about the use of softened water in foreign dishwashers. Some manufacturers recommend not to use softened water but some do.
Recent research has demonstrated that softened water is not a problem and Worcester Bosch has confirmed this to us. See the letter enclosed.
So we recommend using softened water and provide the following guarantee:  That softened water from one of our water softeners will not cause any problems with your dishwasher and we undertake to repair or replace your dishwasher if adverse effects were ever demonstrated.
(I have been in the water softener business for over 30 years and have never seen a problem!)"

- Harvey Bowden, Founder, Harvey Softeners

3.  Septic Tank Guarantee

Water Softener Regeneration Effluent and Cesspits, Septic Tanks and other Sewage Treatment Systems.

"There is much confusion about the effect of water softener regeneration effluent on sewage systems.

The regeneration effluent from a water softener does not contain salt as is popularly believed. It contains mainly calcium chloride. And the softened water contains principally sodium bicarbonate. Both are natural minerals found in drinking water. When the regeneration effluent is diluted with the softened water, it is basically drinking water quality and would meet the Drinking Water Quality Regulations. It cannot and does not materially affect the operation of a sewage system.
Water softeners are often blamed for malfunctioning of a sewage system either through ignorance or as a scapegoat.
Harvey Water Softeners guarantees that our water softener will not adversely affect the efficacy of your sewage system."

- Harvey Bowden, Founder, Harvey Softeners

4.  Washing Machine Guarantee

"There is some confusion about the use of softened water in washing machines made in Germany (although this is increasingly historic). Particularly those manufactured by Miele & Bosch.
Their concern is that people may use too little washing powder to get a good wash. If you have this problem (we have never heard of anyone getting it yet) you can overcome it by using our Harvey Washing Powder that is available from your local dealer or the Harvey Water Softener factory.
The manufacturers also say that softened water might damage machines. They are the only manufacturers to say that. In over 30 years we have never seen a problem.
We recommend using softened water and provide the following guarantee:
Softened water from a Harvey Water Softener will not damage your washing machine. If it does, we’ll replace it."

- Harvey Bowden, Founder, Harvey Softeners

5. Quooker Boiling Water Tap Guarantee

Can I use a Quooker tap with a water softener?

"Quooker boiling water taps are so versatile in the kitchen, it’s good to know that they can be teamed easily with MiniMax Water Softeners.
Softened water is completely compatible with a Quooker boiling water tap providing the water softener is correctly fitted, the water pressure is maintained at above 2b and that the water delivered has a pH value of between +6.5 and +7.5.
When installing your Quooker, the dedicated Quooker engineer will check your water pressure and pH to ensure it meets with these requirements. Not all water softeners are as compatible with the Quooker system, but Quooker is happy and confident to install a Quooker tap with a MiniMax Water Softener.
Both Quooker and MiniMax are high-quality, tried and tested brands which work extremely well together, providing you with years of dependable service.
Quooker and MiniMax Water Softeners — flawless teamwork for perfect boiling water."
- Harvey Bowden, Founder, Harvey Softeners and Stephen Johnson, Managing Director, Quooker
